Vegetable Juicers Are Great For Making Healthy Delicious Nutrient Rich Drinks
Vegetable juicers can be your gateway into juicing and improving your health and vitality. Find out how to pick one and which models I consider the best.
Vegetable juicers are the best devices for efficiently extracting nutrients from different fruits and vegetables, in juice form, which is easily absorbed by the body. Juicing has become quite popular, as it provides very nutritious food in a short amount of time, which can then be quickly consumed.
Modern living is quite fast paced, and people usually do not have much time to spend on meals. In such situations, there is a chance of developing unhealthy eating habits by depending more on packaged and junk foods. With a vegetable juicer, it is very easy to come up with a glassful of concentrated nutritious goodness in no time at all. The high doses of vitamins and minerals available in raw vegetables not only provide excellent nutrition, but also detoxify the body, and help you build a strong immune system.
Selecting Vegetable Juicers
Selecting a vegetable juicer can be quite daunting when there are so many types and models available. The first thing you need to do is to match your requirements with the device. You should note that there is no single juicer which can efficiently juice every type of vegetable. Each type of juicer is suited for a particular group of vegetables, and therefore you need to be clear about the type of vegetables you will need juiced on a regular basis.
Once you have decided on the type of vegetable juicer you require, you need to consider the various features of different models. For selecting the best features, you need to consider aspects like:
- Speed and efficiency of juicing
- How easy it is to clean the machine
- How much noise the machine makes during operation
- The overall quality of the product
- The type of guarantee or warranty that is offered

Types of Vegetable Juicers
There are three major types of vegetable juicers on the market: centrifugal juicers, twin gear models, and masticating juicers. With all of these you are not limited to just vegetables; you’ll also be able to juice a wide variety of fruits as well. Twin gear and masticating juicers are best for leafy green vegetables like spinach and wheatgrass and more efficient than centrifugal juicers for these ingredients. Centrifugal juicers are a bit faster than the other models and can be used for almost any fruit or vegetable.
The Centrifugal Juicer
Centrifugal vegetable juicers are the most commonly available models in the market, and are ideal for juicing the majority of vegetables. This machine has a shredding blade at the base of the basket, which revolves extremely fast at around 3600 rpm. To use one of these vegetables are first cut into appropriately sized pieces, dropped in a chute at the top, and pressed down towards the spinning blade using a food pusher that will come with most models. The spinning blade will shred the vegetable, and extract the juice in the process. The centrifugal force created by the spinning will force the juice that is lighter, towards the front opening, and will let the heavier pulp settle down.
The basket is either made of food grade plastic or stainless steel, and inside there is a mesh which will not allow the pulp to be mixed with the juice. Although this is a versatile juicer, it cannot juice continuously, and you need to clear the pulp out after about a couple of quarts of juice.
The Centrifugal Ejection Juicer
To get over the problem of having to stop juicing to clear the pulp, certain innovations have been made, which resulted in the centrifugal ejection juicer. Here the basket sides are slanted, so that the pulp can be ejected out, and made to fall into a collection bin. As the shredder can work only for a short time on the vegetable, because the pulp is being ejected, the blade is made to spin faster with a higher rpm of about 6300. This increases the noise level quite a bit, and this type is considered the noisiest of the lot. Many models now come with a wide chute of 3 inches that will allow you to drop whole vegetables down the food chute without having to cut them. I love being able to drop a whole uncut apple down the chute of a centrifugal juicer and have apple juice come out. The continuous juicing feature, and the ease of cleaning because of the ejection of pulp, makes these vegetable juicers the most popular in the market today.
The Two-Gear or Twin Gear Press
These vegetable juicers use two gears for squeezing the vegetables, and forcing out the juice. The vegetables are pushed between the teeth of these gears, which rotate at slow speeds of around 100 rpm. This type of juicer will give the best extract of vegetables, but the produce has to be pushed quite hard into the machine. Hence, the user should be strong enough to operate these juicers, and the work can be quite strenuous if you are juicing a lot of produce.
The Masticating Vegetable Juicer
This juicer is able to extract juice effectively from almost any type of vegetable, including leafy ones. It is the most powerful juicer that combines three operations. It first grates the vegetable, then masticates the pulp, and finally squeezes out the juice from the pulp. This juicer also requires some strength to operate, as it requires pushing the produce into the machine. The masticating juicer can effectively juice cabbage, parsley, spinach, bell peppers, wheat grass, and almost all other vegetables.
Popular Vegetable Juicer Models
I have a list of the best juicer models for vegetables as well as fruits and wheatgrass on this site. Click the link to find out more about these as well as the prices for each. Below are some other popular vegetable juicer models you can check out.
L’Equip 110.5 and 215 XL Centrifugal Ejector Juicer
The 110.5 has a superior ejection system that eliminates clogging problems. The pulp is pushed upwards, and ejected from the rear of the juicer. Standing tall at less than a foot, this model requires very little counter space as it is quite compact, and ideal for a kitchen with space constraints. I found a really good deal on the L’Equip 110.5 Mini Pulp Ejector Juicer on Amazon.com which had it for 10% off. The 215 XL model has a wider feed tube of 3 inches, and it is taller by a couple of inches but has many of the same features as the 110.5.
Omega 4000 Centrifugal Juicer
The induction motor of the Omega 4000 delivers 5200 rpm, giving it a superior juicing capacity in this class of juicers. The bowl and blade is made from surgical stainless steel, and the basket is precisely balanced so that there is very less vibration during operation. Optional filters made from cellulose fibers can be used to get juice, totally free of pulp. This model comes with a 15-year warranty. Green Star GS-1000 Juice Extractor
This is a two-gear press, and is known to extract much more mineral content than other juicers. Oxidization of the vegetables is almost eliminated, as there is no spinning blade, and most of the live enzyme content survives the juicing process. It also offers continuous juicing and automatic ejection of the pulp. In addition to juicing fruits and vegetables you’ll also be able to make sorbets, nut butter, and baby food.
